Installing Atom with Solidity mark up (Blockchain stack #3c)

Atom editor for Ethereum Smart Contracts

You may have been using a basic text editor so far.  Atom is highly recommended, it is a free and open-source source code editor which has thousands of free plug-in.  In this post we will install Atom and then install the mark up plug-in for the Solidity language used in Ethereum Smart contracts

This assumes you have followed the instructions from the previous posts in the series (more detail below) and have Ubuntu on Oracle VM.

Install Atom

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/atom
$ sudo apt update; sudo apt install atom

Install Ethereum language support in Atom

$ cd ~/.atom
$ apm install language-ethereum

Start up either using the Ubuntu launcher or the command ./atom.

The Blockchain Stack

I’m writing a series of posts on the Blockchain Stack, giving simple but fully coded, step by step examples of how each of the element work both independently and collaboratively. This is an annex to the third post Your first Ethereum web page : Blockchain stack #3
